Revision of Caterpillar from Majuro, Marshall Islands from Tue, 2013-03-12 12:12

Nancy Vander Velde brought me some caterpillars from Majuro for identification. These are almost certainly Hypolimnas bolina (Family Nymphalidae). According the Butterflies of Micronesia [1], this is the only Hypolimnas species in the Marshalls and larvae are often abundant on Wollastonia biflora growing on Majuro. This butterfly species is listed in "The Marshall Islands - Living Atolls Amidst the Living Sea"[2].
