Revision of Four Most Damaging Termites in the Philippines from Thu, 2012-12-13 17:17

According to Acda, 2007:

The Philippines supports a rich termite fauna comprising of fifty-five known species in eighteen genera (Snyder and Francia 1963; Acda 2006). Of the 55 reported species, four subterranean species are considered serious structural pests; Coptotermes vastator Light, Nasutitermes luzonicus Oshima, Macrotermes gilvus Hagen, and Microcerotermes losbanosensis Oshima. These species are widely distributed and are considered serious structural pest of timber structures (Valino 1967; Acda 2004).

Note: Coptotermes vastator is know known as C. gestroi.

The termite fauna in Hawaii is quite different:

  1. FORMOSAN SUBTERRANEAN TERMITE (Coptotermes formosanus)
  2. WEST INDIAN DRYWOOD TERMITE (Cryptotermes brevis)
  3. LOWLAND TREE TERMITE (Incisitermes immigrans)
  4. FOREST TREE TERMITE (Neotermes connexus)
  5. INDO-MALAYSIAN DRYWOOD TERMITE (Cryptotermes cynocephalus)
  6. WESTERN DRYWOOD TERMITE (Incisitermes minor)
  7. PACIFIC DAMPWOOD TERMITE (Zootermopsis angusticollis)
