Reasons: This is an Old World cultigen which now grows in s. Florida, and under cultivation elsewhere (Isely, 1990).

Production Methods: Cultivated
Comments: The green pods are used as a vegetable in S.E. Asia. Also used as a grain food. A toxin in the grain must be removed before ingesting. The leaves appear to have a fungicide effect and could be used as part of a biological control mechanism. It can also be used as a pesticide in the control of Atta ants due to the presence of dimethyl homopterocarpin in the plant.
