Species in the genus Microdontomerus have been reared from cultivated and wild olives infested with Bactrocera oleae (Rossi) in South Africa (Neuenschwander 1982). Detailed information on biology and actual host is lacking.

The Torymidae are a family of wasps that consists of attractive metallic species with enlarged hind legs, and generally with long ovipositors in the females. Many are parasitoids on gall-forming insects, and some are phytophagous (plant-eating) species, sometimes usurping the galls formed by other insects. Over 960 species in about 70 genera are found worldwide. They are best recognized in that they are one of the few groups of Chalcidoidea in which the cerci are visible.

De larven van sluipwespen leven op of in andere insecten of spinnen. Vooral rupsen zijn een favoriete prooi. Het volwassen dier zoekt een geschikte prooi op, verlamt die met haar angel, sleept hem naar een holletje en legt er een ei op. De gastheren blijven in leven terwijl de larven ze opeten, maar gaan op het eind toch dood. Er zijn veel soorten die in de duinen voorkomen. Sluipwespen worden in de tuinbouw gebruikt om plaaginsecten te bestrijden.
